Wurzburg green stamp bank

This is a charming little green stamp bank I found at Eastown Antiques.
I sort of remember "green stamps" being around when I would go to some stores with my grandparents shopping. I imagine they were something like a paper version of the "rewards program" most places have nowadays.

  1. I remember my mom collecting green stamps when I was growing up in GR in the mid-70s. Filled booklets of the stamps could be redeemed for merchandise; if you Google S&H green stamps catalog, you can see some examples. I will have to ask my mom is she remembers what she got with her stamps!

  2. My mom got orange juice glasses with her stamps. I think she collected them from Eberhardts on the corner of Knapp and Fuller.

  3. I remember sticking the green stamps in booklets, wet with a sponge. When filled, the books were a bit out of shape. Then we would look at the catalog and dream about all the ways the new things would make our lives better.

  4. I remember going to the S&H Redemption Center in Fort Lauderdale in the early 1970s with my mother. She had diligently saved several books of green stamps and used them to get a pair of four-tier shelves for my sister's bedroom. As late as 2014, they were still in use at my mom's house.

  5. There were S&H Green Stamps, the most popular, but you could also collect Plaid Stamps, Gold Bell, Red Stamps, etc. Same deal, fill your books, redeem the books for a toaster, whatever. Used to be very popular amongst the housewives crowd.
